News reports abound today with confirmation that the United States Olympic Committee has decided to withdraw its proposal to have Boston considered as one of the final possible locations for the 2024 Olympic games. This isn’t surprising news for those who have been following the bid process and the involved parties, but to the larger American public it does seem odd. This may be due to the fact that the USOC has entered a candidate in each of these selection processes since 1996. Or that following the extravagance of Beijing games or the excellence of the London Olympics, it was time to once again show what America could do when hosting the world’s best athletes and the accompanying global attention.
