“ARE TEENAGERS STARTING SCHOOL TOO EARLY?” THAT’S FUNNY… WHAT HAPPENED TO THE GOOD OLD DAYS!
CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The U.S. Government argues teenagers are starting school too early. Now, they’re calling on school districts to push back high school start times to 8:30 a.m.
The basis for the argument? Teens aren’t getting enough sleep. Many students we spoke to, agree.
“My mom would come in the morning, shake you awake. You’d set an alarm, three of them just to wake up and then it wouldn’t go off. You’d ignore it, your mom comes in and tears the blankets off of you and you still don’t want to get up,” said Emily Christy, who graduated high school in 2012.
In Massachusetts, some schools start as early as 7 a.m., like Gardner High in Worcester. That forces many students to wake up before 5 a.m. and catch the bus before 6 a.m. (You can see a full list of all Massachusetts high school start times Here).
