Mother works to prevent cardiac deaths in son’s memory

WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – On a July day in 2011, 19-year-old Kevin Major of Westfield suffered cardiac arrest while he was swimming in Congamond Lake in Southwick.

The Amelia Park ice rink in Westfield was a home away from home for Kevin Major, who excelled at hockey. On Saturday, Kevin’s mom, Susan Canning, held the 5th annual hockey tournament in Kevin’s honor. She’s been unswerving in her efforts to make certain what happened to her son doesn’t happen to others.

Canning told 22News, “It has been my mission from that point on to raise awareness from cardiac arrest, and to make sure no child loses their life to a condition we could possibly save them from.”

Major’s father Matt said, “It does my heart very well to feel this and be part of this to make it happen.”

Canning raises money in Kevin’s name so that she can be pro-active…
