Is Bigger Better? Dallas Developer Asks City to Exceed Building Height

DALLAS — Is bigger better?  Trammell Crow might think so, and the Dallas developer is asking the city council to give it a green light to build two towers in Uptown. One of the towers is taller than current zoning allows.

“In terms of the height, to be able to go higher, they shrunk their density down. They said they’d agree to build four underground parking garages. They said they would build a plaza,” Councilman Rick Callahan of District 5 said Wednesday.

The towers have created a war of words between The Dallas Morning News and the Dallas Observer.  An editorial at DMN argues City Hall should not require the company to include affordable housing in the towers since Trammell Crow says it won’t build any residential units if they have to meet that requirement.

The Dallas Observer says Trammell is throwing a “tantrum.”
